Augsburg - Can art reflect on (post-) colonial consequences? This question is the focus of this year's edition of the ZEITSICHT Art Prize. On December 7th we will be award this prize for the 14th time in the Neue Galerie im Höhmannhaus. This year we were able to win Sammy Baloji as our laudator.

The well-known Congolese artist was represented at the renowned exhibition documenta in 2017. Baloji (*1978) is from Lubumbashi, the capital of the Congolese mining province of Katanga. In his artworks he often makes colonialism, (post) colonialism and their effects on the region to his subject of discussion. It is important for the artist to raise awareness of the postcolonial debate without moralizing.

ZEITSICHT aims to provide a platform for young, hopeful artists. Since 2007, the winner of the art prize, sponsored by hauserconsulting, is nominated by an artist with a contemporary approach and respected CV. Prior to Baloji, international artists such as Neo Rauch, Daniel Richter and Marina Abramovic were already ZEITSICHT judges. The laudator is free to decide who to nominate and does not have to justify his choice. Therefore, it remains exciting to see who Sammy Baloji will be nominating as a winner and to whom the ZEITSICHT Art Award is going to serve as a possible career stepping stone.
